DEU officer accidentally shot by another officer
A police inspector attached to the Drug Enforcement Unit(DEU)was in critical condition at Doctors Hospital yesterday after he was accidently shot in the chest by another police officer,The Nassau Guardianhas learned.
Inspector Archie Miller was shot around 5 a.m. during a police operation in southwestern New Providence.
Assistant Commissioner Hulan Hanna said surgery was performed on the officer and he remained at the Intensive Care Unit at Doctors Hospital. Hanna did not name the officer, but described the shooting as accidental.
This is the second officer to be shot in less than a month.
An off-duty DEU officer was shot multiple times on November 4 after being ambushed in the Miami Street area.
Constable Latroy Bodie was reportedly near the residence of a friend around 5 a.m. when a gunman or gunmen opened fire on him while he was in his vehicle.
Police said Bodie was able to drive himself near to Police Headquarters. He was then taken to hospital via ambulance.
Police did not disclose if the shooting was related to Bodie’s work, his personal life or whether it was a robbery attempt. Bodie has since been released from hospital.
