Concerns about Exuma winter residents’length of stay

Questions surrounding the length of time winter residents to the island of Exuma are allowed to stay in their second homes are being raised by President of the Exuma Chamber of Commerce Floyd Armbrister.

“Winter residents e-mail me directly about that concern. The problem is that they have their home and want to spend extended periods of time, but if they come for two months there is no guarantee that their time will be extended. But[Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham]said he will address it and I’m sure he will.

“We can’t make them feel unwelcome. Some program needs to be established to identify who are winter residents. They make serious contributions to the economy and they are like family. We have to be grateful and appreciative for that. We appreciate foreign investors and want to work with them, but we don’t want to work with them to their detriment, and we don’t want them to feel like they are being taken advantage of.”
