Two men shot in separate incidents
Two men are suffering from gun shot wounds in hospital after they were shot in separate incidents on Friday night, police said.
Police were called to the scene of the first shooting at Eneas Street, off Poinciana Drive, around 7:15 p.m.
Reports indicate that a male was in the area of Eneas Street when he was approached by another male with dreadlocks, who was armed with a handgun. Police said the gunman fired shots in the victim’s direction which resulted in him receiving multiple gunshot injuries.
The victim was taken to hospital by emergency medical services personnel where he is detained in stable condition, police said.
Fifteen minutes later police were called to the scene of a the second shooting at Hutchinson Street, also off Poinciana Drive.
“Police responded and information received that a male was walking north on Hutchinson Street when he was approached by a silver Honda vehicle occupied by three males,”reported Sergeant Chrislyn Skippings, police press liaison officer.
“It is reported that one of the males exited the vehicle, produced a handgun and fired gunshots in the direction of the male, which resulted in that male receiving a gunshot injury to the right leg,” she added.
The victim was taken to hospital by EMS personnel a short time later.
He is said to be in stable condition.
Investigations continue in both matters, Skippings said.
Meantime, police are also investigating the death of an infant.
Details were sketchy up to press time, however, Skippings said sometime around 10:24 a.m. on Saturday police received information about an unresponsive infant.
“The infant was taken to hospital via EMS personnel where he was pronounced dead,”she said.
Skippings added that investigations into the child’s death are continuing.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, which has yet to be classified.
