Man critical after shot in the face
A man was in critical condition yesterday after he was attacked by two men and shot in the face late Sunday night, police said.
According to police, the victim, a 49-year-old resident of Armbrister Street, was near his residence in the Fox Hill area around 11:15 when he was attacked.
Police said the man was shot with a shotgun by one of the two men who attacked him.
It was unclear what led to the shooting.
Police said the man was transported to hospital by emergency medical personnel.
Investigations into the shooting were ongoing.
Police also reported that two men–ages 24 and 28–were taken into custody yesterday morning after they were found in possessions of two handguns and suspected marijuana.
Police said that around 2:25 a.m. officers of the Northeastern Division executed a search warrant on a residence at Peach Street, off Wulff Road. It was there that police reportedly recovered the contraband.
Police Commissioner Ellison Greenslade said last week that far too many illegal weapons are on the streets of New Providence.
“There is a proliferation of guns in our society,”Greenslade said.”Far too many of our young men are moving about with illegal weapons.”
According to the commissioner, police have taken well over 200 guns off the streets this year alone.
Most of this year’s 94 murder victims died as a result of gunshot injuries, according to police.
