Three Americans accused of rape
Three American tourists accused of rape were each granted$10,000 bail yesterday.
Police alleged that Robert Rothschild, 21, of New York, had sex with two 17-year-old girls(tourists)without their consent on December 20.
Garret Wittels, 20, of Florida, is charged with the rape of one of those girls on the same date. Jonathan Oberti, 21, of New York, is accused of raping one of the girls.
The men were not required to enter pleas to the charges at their arraignment before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez.
Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis will begin a preliminary inquiry on April 18 to determine if there is enough evidence for a Supreme Court trial.
In arguing for bail for the accused, attorney Wayne Munroe told Gomez that bail has been granted to foreigners accused of capital offenses.
He reminded the court of the case of murder accused Daniel Ayo and Luis Mendez, whose release on$50,000 cash bail was upheld by the Court of Appeal.
Corporal Claudette McKenzie was the prosecutor.
