Police probe series of robberies

At least six people were robbed three days before Christmas by gunmen who stole cash and other personal items.

Police informed the media yesterday of five robberies that took place on Wednesday between the hours of 11 a.m. and 10 p.m.

The most recent robbery took place around 9:45 p.m. at Freetown Lane, off Shirley Street. A gunman robbed a man as he arrived home.

Sergeant Chrislyn Skippings, police press liaison officer, said the gunman stole jewelry and a cell phone before fleeing the area on foot in an unknown direction.

About two hours before that robbery, a 30-year-old Lincoln Boulevard man was at Wulff Road when he was robbed and assaulted.

Skippings said that around 7:35 p.m. a group of men wearing dark clothing robbed the man of an undisclosed amount of cash. One of the men was armed with a knife. Skippings said the victim was stabbed multiple times to the back. The man was taken to hospital via ambulance where he was detained in serious condition.

Another man was robbed in the area of Third Street, Coconut Grove around 7 p.m. by two men wearing dark clothing. Skippings said one of the men was armed with a handgun. Cash was stolen from the victim.

A woman was robbed around 3:30 p.m. as she arrived at her Iguana Way residence by a gunman. Skippings said he stole the woman’s wallet and other personal items.

Two women, who were walking in the area of Fire Trail and Carmichael Roads, were robbed around 11 a.m. by two gunmen wearing dark clothing.

Police said the men stole handbags containing cash, cell phones and jewelry before escaping.

Police are also investigating two shootings that occurred on Wednesday night.

The first shooting took place around 7:15 p.m. at Finlayson Street, off Poinciana Drive.

Police said a 52-year-old man was inside his home when he was approached by another man who shot him in the chest.

The man was taken to hospital via ambulance where he was detained in serious condition.

The second man was shot around 8 p.m. at Jackson Street, Nassau Village.

This man was approached by two masked gunman who attempted to rob him.

“The victim informed the culprits that he had no cash and was subsequently shot to theleft arm. The victim was taken to hospital via emergency medical services(EMS)personnel where he is detained in stable condition,”said Skippings.
