Man murdered; chased and struck by vehicle
A 51-year-old man was murdered Friday night when he was struck off his bicycle by a vehicle that was said to be chasing him, according to police reports. The man became the 11th murder victim so far for the year.
According to the police report, the man was riding his bike north on East Street near Sunlight Village when a silver Pontiac hit him and then attempted to flee the scene.
That report also revealed that the driver of the Pontiac was seen chasing the man on the bicycle with the car.
Police say the Pontiac, as it attempted to make a getaway, slammed into a 2001 Ford Taurus that was travelling south on East Street.
When officers arrived on the scene they discovered the man, who is said to be a resident of Sunlight Village, dead on the side of the street where he was struck. The police report added that the man was wearing khaki pants and a khaki shirt.
The driver of the Pontiac was picked up by police at the scene following the collision with the Ford Taurus, police toldThe Nassau Guardian
yesterday. He is said to be a 44-year-old man from Lucky Hart Corner.
Police officials also said that the man will be officially identified today. His family has already been notified of his death. The investigation into the matter is continuing.
