Rolle and McIntoshwin Baptist run
While members of the Golden Gates family came out in large numbers to support patron Deaconess Joanne ‘Mother’ Webb and help to retain their church title, a number of familiar names surfaced as the individual winners at the Baptist Sports Council’s 10th annual Family Fun Run/Walk Road Race.
Saturday morning’s early riser saw Cerio Rolle and Barinqne McIntosh emerge as the men and women winners in the 4.2 mile run, while Bernard Hanna and Kimley Saunders carted home the male and female walk crowns. Former distance runner, the Rev. Dr. David S. Johnson, pastor of the Macedonia Baptist Church, was the first finisher in the pastors category. Rev. Dr. Johnson will be honored by the BSC during the basketball classic that will begin on February 12.
The Royal Bahamas Defence Force also made its impact at the event with a number of their members carrying some of the hardware back to the base in Carol Harbour. The Bahamas Association of Certified Officials (BACO) officiated the event.
Nurses Arlene Sargeant and Ruth Coakley from Healthy Lifestyles were on hand to provide free glucose and blood sugar testing. The Rev. Dr. Anthony Carroll, president of the Bahamas National Baptist missionary and Educational Convention, along with the Rev. Ellerston Smith, president of the National Young People’s Fellowship, and Minister Clinton Minnis, under whose watch as NYPF’s president the race was established by the BSC in 2001, were also present to assist patron Webb in the awards presentation.
