bay street fire

Firefighters and defence force officers are battling a raging fire at this hour that started at the Betty K Agency Ltd. on Bay Street.

According to police, the fire started shortly before 8 a.m. today, and has spread to surrounding buildings, including The Pub, a sports bar located west of Betty K and a number of buildings in the rear of the shipping company.

The shipping agency’s building is completely burned and the roof has fallen through. A car was damaged when a part of the roof fell away, but so far no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters and about 50 defence force officers are still trying to get the fire under control.

Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham and Minister of National Security Tommy Turnquest toured the site of the Betty K fire earlier this morning.

Officials have promised to make a statement once the fire has been brought under control.
