Former murder-accused facing illegal gun charge

Police have accused a man who beat a murder rap last month of illegal gun possession.

Officers arrested Franklyn Edgecombe, 42, of Wilson Street, on February 7 after they found a .357 revolver at a home at McCollough Corner.

Edgecombe pleaded not guily to the charge at his arraignment before Magistrate Guillimina Archer on Monday.

Magistrate Archer set Edgecombe’s bail at$10,000 and ordered him tracked with an ankle bracelet.

Edgecombe returns to court for the start of his trial on March 14.

Edgecombe, whose street name is”Chili”, David Cooper-Cunningham and Timothy Cole were accused of the death of Daron Farrington in December 2009.

Two gunmen ambushed Farrington as he stood outside a home on Strachan’s Corner, off East Street, shortly before 9 p.m. on December 15, 2009. Farrington, a steel worker, was the country’s 81st murder victim that year.

Magistrate Archer dismissed the case against the men due to insufficient evidence on January 16, 2011.
