Policeman on trial, accused of raping girl while on duty

A police constable is on trial in connection to the alleged rape of a girl while on duty.

Prosecutors allege that Daniel Paul Smith, 21, of Hawthorne Road, Oakes Field, raped the 19-year-old girl on September 28, 2009. Smith has denied the allegation.

He is represented by Ramona Farquharson and Calvin Seymour.

Crispin Rolle and Francis Cumberbatch appear for the Crown.

In other court news, a man accused of having sex with a teenage girl has been granted$10,000 bail.

Police allege that Darron Johnson, 39, of Kool Acres, had sex with the 14-year-old girl on February 11, 2011.

Magistrate Guillimina Archer adjourned the case to July 18.
