PI date set for man on incest charge

A magistrate on Thursday ordered a 56-year-old man accused of having sex with his granddaughter to report to the police station once monthly. The resident of New Providence did not have to enter a plea to the incest charge when he appeared before Magistrate Subu Swain for an arraignment.

His name was withheld to protect the identity of his alleged victim, who is 12 years old. Prosecutors allege that the man had sex with the pre-teen girl on January 15 and 16 this year.

A preliminary inquiry will be held to determine if there is enough evidence for a Supreme Court trial. The preliminary inquiry will begin on June 30, 2011.

Randolph Swaby appeared before the same magistrate on a rape charge. Swaby, a well driller of Unison Road, is accused of raping a woman on February 12, 2011.

He did not have to enter a plea to the rape charge and was released on$7,500 bail.

A preliminary inquiry into his case is also set to begin on June 30.
