Downtown Art Tours Spring 2011schedule. Tours will be held on March 19, April 2-3, April 23, May 14 and May 28. The March 19 tour is a walk and talk held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at$20 per person. Sites include the NAGB, the D’Aguilar Art Foundation and seven Love My Bahamas public works. The April 2 3 tour includes the 7th Annual Transforming Spaces, which begins at 10 a.m. Participating galleries are Doongalik Studios, Popopstudios, The Hub, New Providence Art and Antiques, Pro Gallery and Post House Gallery via the D’Aguilar Art Foundation. The cost is$30.

The 7th Annual Transforming SpacesArt Bus tour takes place on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 this year. The tour includes Doongalik Studios, Popopstudios, The Hub, New Providence Art and Antiques, Pro Gallery and PostHouse Gallery via the D’Aguilar Art Foundation. “The Cabinet”, a play written by Ward Minnis and directed by Ian Strachan, at the Dundas Centre for the Performing Arts April 2 and April 7 9. A political comedy,”The Cabinet”features actors Chigoze Ijeoma, Matthew Wildgoose, Sophia Smith and Dion Johnson. Tickets are$20 in advance and$25 at the door. Dr Nicolette Bethel will speak on”What Price Culture?The Challenge of Cultural Development in the Caribbean’, Thursday, April 7 on Thursday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the IDB Cultural Center Art Gallery, 1300 New York Ave., Washington DC, Metro Center.


The Bahamas Writers Summer Instituteis now accepting applications for its 2011 workshop. To be held from Tuesdays Thursdays, July 4 28, the workshop includes instruction in Fiction(Lelawattee Manoo-Rahming), Poetry(Marion Bethel), Memoir(Helen Klonaris), Playwriting(Ian Strachan)and Screenwriting(Maria Govan). Seminars on Caribbean Literary Imagination(Toni Francis)and Critical Theory(Krista Walkes)will also be offered. Renowned Caribbean author, George Lamming, will be the Guest Writer. The Nassau City Operawill stage the opera”Porgy and Bess”from July 5 11 at the Rainforest Theatre under the patronage of Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes. The production represents the inauguration of the company directed by Dr. Cleveland Williams. On April 22 the NCO will perform”The Passion and Crucifixion of the Christ”at Christ Church Cathedral.
