Man, 26, shot dead

The country’s homicide count has reached 31 for the year.

Police are reporting that a 26-year-old man of Abraham Street, off St. James Road, is the latest murder victim.

According to reports the incident occurred sometime around 11.42 p.m. on Tuesday at Abraham Street.

“Police responded and information received that a father and son were standing outside their residence at Abraham Street when they were approached by two males wearing hooded jackets, one of whom was armed with a handgun,”said police press liaison officer Sergeant Chrislyn Skippings.

“It is reported that the culprits fired gunshots in the direction of the two which resulted in the father receiving gunshot injuries to his hands and his son receiving multiple gunshot injuries to the body,”she said.

The victims were taken to hospital via emergency medical services personnel(EMS)personnel where a short time later the son succumbed to his injuries. Police are investigating.

Tuesday’s murder marked the 12th. to have taken place in the month of March alone.

This latest incident occurred a day after the country’s 30th. murder took place. Alton Ferguson, 36, was shot in the head on Monday sometime around 2.40 p.m. at Exclusive Salon, Cordeaux Avenue and Ragged Island Street.

Police said a gunman approached Ferguson and shot him. He died a short time after being taken to hospital.

According to statistics, the murder count so far this year is up substantially over the same period last year.

In other crime news, a group of men working on the New Providence Road Improvement Project discovered at least three skeletal remains in a four-foot trench boarding a home on the Corner of Abundant Life and Soldier Roads.

At least three skulls were found.

Reportedly, the workers were about to lay water and sewerage pipes when they discovered the bones in six different locations.

The discovery was made shortly after 11 o’clock Tuesday morning.

Head of the South-Eastern Division Superintendent Theophilus Cunningham said police are looking into whether the area where the remains were discovered could be an extension of the Old Trail Cemetery.

The remains will be sent to the Unites States for forensic testing.

This latest discovery comes on the heels of the discovery of a female remains on March 19.
