Bahamians excelling in doubles at Junkanoo Bowl tourney

Bahamian Danielle Thompson teamed up with India Hart, from Canada, and the duo defeated Gavrieli Amit and Sela Maayan, from Israel, 4-6, 6-4 and 10-8, in the quater-finals of the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) Junkanoo Bowl Junior Tennis Tournament to advance to the semi-finals.

The team of Bahamian Simone Pratt and Shao Yiji, from China, also advanced to the semi-finals. They defeated the team of American Sheikhan Tatijan and Vanessa Zemp, from Switzerland, 6-2, 5-7 and 10-6.

In the Under-14 Boys Division, Bahamian Michael Johnson and Shannon Francis defeated the team of Edan Martes and Mitchel Servage, from the Netherlands Antilles, 6-3 and 6-3. They will play the Mexican team of Nunez Jorge and Alan Valdez in the semi-finals.

The other semi-final in the Under-14 Boys Division will feature Bahamian Dylan Walker and his doubles partner, James Finnigan, from Great Britain. They will play the team of Rego Christopher, from Bermuda, and Dylan Hall, from Barbados, in their semi-final match-up today.

The tournament is being played over at the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association’s (BLTA) National Tennis Centre.
