Man expected to be charged in connection to double murder
The man who police believe is behind the double murder that occurred earlier this month is expected to be charged in a magistrates court sometime this week in connection with those homicides.
Police confirmed yesterday that they are questioning a man in connection with the July 12 double shooting.
Officers of the Southwestern Division arrested the 30-year-old Malcolm Road resident sometime around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The men who were murdered were identified by police as Kevin Forbes, 40, of Miller Heights, and Alwayne Nathaniel Leslie, 28, of Kingston, Jamaica.
Forbes and Leslie were shot dead around 9 p.m. that day at a Haitian village at Montgomery Avenue, off Carmichael Road. Police said the men were approached by a group of men. Forbes and Leslie were shot by someone in the group. They were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services personnel.
Police did not disclose a motive for the shootings.
Police have recorded 79 murders in 2011 so far. Last year this time, the murder count stood at 53. The murder count has increased by 48 percent this year thus far. The Bahamas is on pace to exceed the record murder count in 2010 (94).
