RBDF 2011 summer camp highlights

The Summer Youth Programme, which got underway on July 12th, 2011, is in its fourth year of existence and is coordinated solely by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, as an avenue of keeping its participants away from the idleness that is common to children during the long summer vacation months.  The program concluded on August 5th, 2011.

The theme for this year’s camp was “All Things Bahamian”.  Participants ranged in ages from 5 thru 18, and were involved in a variety of activities including straw works, art and craft, carpentry, swimming and various sporting activities.  These activities are all aligned with the Defence Force Motto, “Guard Our Heritage”, and are designed to promote and improve the participants’ awareness and appreciation of the uniqueness of the Bahamian culture.  Additionally, field trips were coordinated each Friday, which included a day at the movies, bowling, a visit to the circus, and other historical sites.
