Haitian migrants apprehended

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) apprehended forty-three Haitian migrants in the northern Bahamas after their vessel ran aground on Saturday afternoon.

HMBS P-43, under the command of Acting Sub Lieutenant Cox, received information that a Haitian freighter had run aground off Pelican Point, nine miles south of Marsh Harbour, Abaco.

On arrival to the area shortly after 12:00 p.m., they located the 75-ft freighter with 43 undocumented Haitian males onboard.  The migrants were removed from their distressed vessel with the assistance of BASRA officials and handed over to police and immigration authorities in Marsh Harbour for further processing.

The investigation into this matter continues.
