BAAA holds successful conclave
Under the theme, ‘Strategic Planning for Long Term Program Success’, the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) held a conclave for its stakeholders, recently, at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Hotel.
Dr. Bernard Nottage, member of Parliament for the Bain and Grant’s Town constituency, and former BAAA and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) president gave the opening address.
The presenters included: Peter “Duffy” Mahoney, director of High Performance at USA Track and Field; Lenford Levy, director of the International Association of Athletic Federations’ (IAAF) Regional Development Centre in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Dr. Patti Symonette, a nutritionist and exercise physiologist at the Wellness Centre, here in New Providence; and Nicholas Powell, a sports psychologist in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mahoney did a presentation on ‘Coaching Management and Best Practices for World and Olympic Team Success’, Levy spoke on coaching criteria and leadership for international teams, Dr. Symonette spoke on ‘Nutrition for Athletes’, and Powell spoke on ‘Mentally Simplifying the Game’. Nearly fifty participants attended the conclave.
The BAAA also introduced the new ‘Athletes and Coaches Handbook’ this past week. It will be introduced to athletes over the Christmas holidays. The BAAA thanks those participants, including the presenters, for their role in the success of the conclave.
