Prison officer charged with causing harm to colleague

A prison overseer was charged yesterday with causing harm to a fellow officer during a fight off the prison compound.

Corporal Mario Forbes, 32, is accused of hitting Michael Collie in the head with a cement block on November 7.

Forbes, of No. 15 Hill Crest Drive, Seven Hills, who was arrested at the prison Monday morning, denied the charge at his arraignment before Acting Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethell.

Inspector Ercell Dorsett, the prosecutor, did not object to Forbes remaining free pending trial.

Bethell set bail at $7,500 with one or two sureties.

Police cuffed Forbes behind the back as they escorted him to the lock-up at the Central Police Station to wait for his bail to be signed.

He will appear before Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis for a fixture hearing on November 23.

Forbes has been suspended from his duties at the prison pending the outcome of the case.
