Two teams chase the men’s pennant title
With one more week left in the regular season for the Baptist Sports Council’s 2011 Bishop Neil C. Ellis Softball Classic, Golden Gates, Temple Fellowship and Calvary Deliverance have positioned themselves as the front runners for the men’s pennant title. The co-ed race includes Golden Gates, Temple Fellowship and St. Paul’s.
In the co-ed division, there is a two-way tie at the top of the standings at 3-0 with Golden Gates and St. Paul’s. On Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Banker’s Field, St. Paul’s and Temple Fellowship will clash. Then on Saturday at 1 p.m., Golden Gates and St. Paul’s will meet for the pennant. The playoff picture will be completed with Mt. Tabor playing St. Paul’s at 10 a.m., while Macedonia faces Temple Fellowship at 1 p.m.
On the men’s side, Golden Gates and Temple Fellowship will meet at 2:30 p.m. to decide their pennant winners.
The remaining two playoff spots will be determined after Mt. Tabor plays Macedonia at 11:30 a.m. and Calvary Deliverance faces St. Paul’s at 2:30 p.m.
With just three teams in the 19-and-under division, Temple Fellowship clinched the pennant and will wait the outcome of the match-up between Macedonia and Golden Gates to determine who they will face in the postseason.
The sudden playoffs are scheduled for Saturday, December 3 and the championship will be completed on Saturday, December 10 at the Banker’s Field.

Temple Fellowship 10, Calvary Deliverance 9: Robin Shepherd had a perfect 4-for-4 night, including the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to seal Temple Fellowship men’s upset victory on Tuesday night. He finished with two RBI and two runs scored. Vernon Bowles was the winning pitcher.
Devin Francis was 2-for-2 with two runs for Calvary Deliverance as Danny Stubbs got the loss.
Golden Gates 24, Macedonia 11: Producing 14 runs on 10 hits in the top of the fourth, Golden Gates men came back from an 11-10 deficit for an impressive win Tuesday. Eddie Morley had a pair of two-run singles to aid the rally. Sherman Ferguson was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a three-run triple, while Chevez Thompson had a two-run homer.
Junior Moss was the winning pitcher. Jay Johnson got the loss. Eric Johnson had a two-run homer and Adrian Ferguson a two-run triple in the loss.
St. Paul’s 7, Macedonia 6: Basil Dean had a game winning RBI double in the fifth as St. Paul’s and pitcher Harold ‘Banker’ Fritzgerald got a big men’s win Thursday night. Ray Strachan had a three-run homer.
Tim Clarke had a three-run homer in a losing effort. Ken Forbes was tagged with the loss.
Golden Gates 16, Calvary Deliverance 6: Anthon Rolle was 3-for-4 with a three-ruin homer and Ken Wood Jr. helped his own cause going 3-for-4 as well with three RBI and three runs Thursday as Golden Gates stayed perfect.
Glen Clarke had a two-run homer and Taja Wright a two-run double, scoring a run for Calvary Deliverance. Danny Stubbs got the loss.
St. Paul’s 28, Temple Baptist 6: Prescott Wilson had a rare day Saturday for St. Paul’s men, going 4-for-4 with three in-the-park homers, driving in eight runs and scoring four times, while Peter Rahming was 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs and Isadore Morris was 3-for-4 with a three-run in-the-parker. Harold ‘Banker’ Fritzgerald got the win.
Christian Thompson had a two-run triple, scoring a run for Temple Baptist and Burlington Moss got the loss.
St. Paul’s 16, Macedonia 2: Trekia Munroe was 2-for-3 with three RBI, scoring twice and Prescott Wilson was 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs in St. Paul’s co-ed win as Harold ‘Banker’ Fritzgerald got the win on the mound.
Pamela Capron had a RBI single and losing pitcher Michael Ingraham had a double and scored a run.
Temple Fellowship 20, Mt. Tabor 1: Rudolph Fox had a perfect 3-for-3 day Saturday with a two-run homer and Angelo Butler was 2-for-2 with a two-run homer for Temple Fellowship’s men as Vernon Bowles got the win.
Andrea Wood got the only run for Mt. Tabor. David Brown was tagged with the loss.
Golden Gates 14, Temple Fellowship 13: Ken Wood Jr. helped his own cause with the game-winning RBI single in the fifth to complete a 4-for-4 day Saturday in their co-ed game. Ramon ‘Shaky’ Johnson was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer.
Addie Finley was 3-for-4 with a solo homer, and Chris McPhee was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Vernon Bowles got the loss.
Temple Fellowship 14, Christian Tabernacle 4: Deval Storr helped his own cause with a 3-for-3 day Saturday on a solo and three-run homers and Vasnique Lewis was 3-for-3 with two runs, while Addie Finley had a pair of in-the-park homers for three RBI in Temple Fellowship’s co-ed win.
Paulette Bowleg and Yolanda Thompson both had one hit, scoring a run and losing pitcher John Woodside was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored for Christian Tabernacle.
