Top Gifts that are sure to Please

Shopping can be a pleasure for some and a pain for others.

And while the yuletide seasons usually translates in joyous experiences, shopping trips can quickly turn into an agonizing one for those who aren’t sure what to buy.

But it doesn’t have to be an ordeal if you know exactly what you want.

So, The Nassau Guardian’s Gift Guide is making it easy for shoppers who may still be confused about what gifts are hits and what gifts are not.
Obviously, each present depends on the person one is buying for but there are several gifts that are almost sure to be winners.

With the technological advances of the day, electronics gifts are a no-brainer. Anything from iPods and iPads to flat screen televisions to the latest smart phones are very popular this year.

Prince Turnquest, Manager of Electronic Solutions on Rosetta Street, said flat screen televisions (40 inches or more) are top sellers for males.
Men like it big,” Turnquest said.

“Males are pretty much into sports. And being sports fans, they go home or gather together to watch pretty much all the major sports whether it is basketball, football or baseball. They like to watch the big screen.” He said the large flat screen televisions range from $699.95 to $1,699.95
For women, Turnquest recommends a digital camera.

“Most of our sales with women has been for the digital camera. For them taking pictures is their thing. With all the occasions that is coming up especially for December – junkanoo and parties – I think they would like to capture the moments.”

Hepburn said laptops are also popular with both genders.

It’s the same with smart phones, according to a BTC representative. And with the pending introduction of 4G network, smart phones are expected to get even more popular.

But if you’re buying a gift for someone who isn’t as technologically savvy, as always jewelry never fails, according to Fashionista Boutique Buyer Chavaz Lightbourne. “You can’t go wrong with jewelry,” she said. According to Lightbourne, Fashionista Boutique, which is on Shirley Street, offers “different, eccentric fashion pieces”. The jewelry ranges from $10 to $50.  “So it’s very affordable,” she added.

But if you’re looking for something more high end, John Bull boosts of a wide selection of jewelry. Everything from watches, to rings, to pandora bracelets are in stock. John Bull also offers bags and a wide range of perfumes and colognes.

Some of the more popular fragrances include Decibel by Azzaro, Aura by Swarovski, Love by Vera Wang,  Champion Energy by Davidoff and Baiser Vole by Cartier. The fragrances range from $42 to $123.

As it relates to handbags and wallets, John Bull carries a variety of name brands including Donney and Burke, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Elliott Lucca.
Some of the top picks include Dooney & Bourke Cognac Croc Duffle for $460, Marc by Marc Jacobs Pewter Wallet for $190, and Elliot Lucca Black &

The Alex Fraga line of jewelry including the amethyst earrings valued at $175 and oversized amethyst ring valued at $215 are some of the more popular jewelry. The Ippolita Mini Lollipop earrings 18k gold and clear quartz is also a top seller at $550.

John Bull’s Marketing Coordinator Keith Jones said the items mentioned are all “sure hits” this holiday season. “The buyers at John Bull chose the items based on trends around the world for this time,” he said. “Those are what people have been asking for.”  “John Bull represents some if not all of the world’s finest brands.
