Bahamian athlete at Portland State University (PSU), P’Lar Dorsett, took part in three events this past weekend for the Vikings as they competed in the Jackson’s Open, which was hosted by Boise State University, in Nampa, Idaho. Dorsett finished third in the 60-meter hurdles, in 9.07 seconds, 14th overall in the 60 meters (m) in 7.93 seconds, and 26th overall in the Women’s 200m, in 26.62 seconds. The Vikings will now have over a month off to train before heading to Seattle, Washington, to take part in the UW Indoor Preview on January 14, 2012, in the team’s first of three events held at the Dempsey Indoor facility.
The Champion Amateur Boxing Club (CABC) will stage the 16th Annual Ray Minus Sr. End-of-Year Amateur Boxing Tournament on Friday December 16 and Saturday December 17. On Friday, the tournament will be held at the Wulff Road Youth Development Boxing Center, and on Saturday, the tournament will conclude at the Nassau Stadium on Fowler Street. The main event on Friday will be between Tyrone Oliver and Richard Charlton. The winner of that match will challenge Lester Brown Jr. in the main event on Saturday. Other exciting matches will feature boxers from the C.H. Reeves Boxing Team taking on young fighters from the L.W. Young Boxing Team. Awards will be given out for the ‘Most Improved Boxer’, ‘Most Outstanding Boxer’, ‘Best Fight of the Night’, the Ray Minus Sr. Trophy and the ‘Boxer of the Year’.
