Latest murder victim is 17 year-old female
The woman discovered dead near Blue Water Cay, off Fox Hill, last Friday has been identified as Candace Major, 17, The Nassau Guardian learned.
Major is a resident of Second Street in the Grove, according to a well-placed source.
Police discovered Major’s body at approximately 10:15 a.m. after being alerted of her discovery by a fisherman who frequents the area.
Police press liaison officer Sergeant Chrislyn Skippings said on the scene that the victim received injuries to the upper body but did not reveal any further details about how she may have died.
“At present I do want to comment on the type of injuries that the victim sustained,” Skippings said.
Police did not say whether the woman’s body was dumped there, but the fisherman who discovered Major’s body said she was wearing a blue skirt and nothing else.
He added that the sight of Major’s body made him so emotional that he had to move far away from her to contact police.
Major became the 118th murder victim in The Bahamas this year.
Last Tuesday, authorities discovered the body of Bridgette Saunders, 43, a Fox Hill resident, on an unpaved tract road between Joan’s Heights West and Cox Way, just off East Street, with injuries to the neck.
The details surrounding Saunders’ death are still not clear.
Sixteen females have been murdered in The Bahamas this year, according to police.
The highest number of females murdered in one year previously stood at 10, which was recorded in 2009.
