Dominicans apprehended in the Ragged Island chain

A group of foreign fishermen accused of poaching were apprehended in Bahamian waters by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) Friday.

While on routine patrol, the RBDF operations center received reports of a foreign fishing vessel suspected of illegally fishing in the Ragged Island chain.

HMBS Nassau, under the command of Senior Lieutenant Raymond King, was informed of the sighting, and it subsequently proceeded to the area, the RBDF said in a release.

They discovered a Dominican registered vessel with a crew of 13 Dominicans 34 miles east of Cay Lobos, the defence force said.  Further investigations revealed an undetermined amount of fisheries products, according to the RBDF.  The Dominican vessel ‘LA SUSY’ and its crew were taken into custody.
