Man shot to death outside his Abaco home

The third murder of the year in Abaco occurred Friday night when a 44-year-old man was shot outside his Sweeting’s Village home.

A team of officers from the Central Detective Unit in New Providence has flown to the island to assist local police with the investigation into the killing of Claude Collins – the 119th murder victim this year.

According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. in Marsh Harbour.

Collins’ neighbors, who wished to remain anonymous, said he stepped outside of his home to have a cigarette when he was attacked.  The eyewitnesses said when Collins sat down on his back porch, he was approached by an armed man who shot him five or six times in the chest.  The neighbors said the gunman then fled on foot.

Police said Collins was taken to the local clinic where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police are uncertain of the circumstances surrounding this incident and are appealing to members of the Abaco community, who may have any information regarding this incident, to contact them.
