Nearly $600K in cash, $7K worth of marijuana confiscated

Grand Bahama police confiscated nearly $600,000 in cash and $7,000 worth of marijuana yesterday morning, police reported.

Police said yesterday that officers attached to the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) executed a search warrant on an apartment in the Midshipman Road area.

The search resulted in the discovery of $593,521, a .44 Desert Eagle Pistol with a magazine clip containing six live rounds of .44 ammunition, and the drugs.

Grand Bahama police said the owner of the apartment complex, a 53-year-old man of Freeport, was arrested as a result of the discovery.

In addition, officers said they observed a 49-year-old Jamaican man, who occupies another apartment in the complex, in a courtyard “acting suspiciously”.

Authorities added that upon examination of his

passport, the officers discovered that he had overstayed his time.

He was arrested.

The items recovered remain in police custody.
