Man shot dead
A 27-year-old man from the Carmichael Road area was shot and killed shortly before 1 p.m. on Fire Trail Road yesterday.
Police said they had no motive for the murder of Keith Lightbourne, whose death drove the total count for 2011 up to 127 as the year nears a close.
Superintendent Stephen Dean said police were going door to door to see if they could find any witnesses.
“We are confident that we will be able to determine a motive,” he said at the scene. “Police are following some other leads. We are confident that we will be able to determine who may be responsible.”
As they have with the many murders that occurred this year, police appealed to members of the public to provide information if they have any.
“If you heard the gun shot or if you have seen something, please give us a call,” Dean said.
“We are saying to the people responsible, rest assured that the police will not stop until we bring justice to the family of this young man.”
It was unclear why Lightbourne was in the area where he was murdered.
Yesterday’s murder was the fifth to occur in the country within the past week.
On Tuesday night, Ferron Palmer, 37, was murdered in a drive-by shooting near his Dunmore Avenue residence.
