Convicted pedophile collapses in court

A convicted pedophile was rushed to hospital after a jury found him guilty of the sexual assault of an underage girl yesterday.

Edward Butler, 64, collapsed after learning that he would be remanded to prison until his July 26 sentencing hearing.

Prosecutors alleged he had sex with the nine-year-old between November 9, 2009 and January 8, 2010 and took a photograph of the girl performing oral sex on him with his phone.

The jury convicted Butler of unlawful sexual intercourse and cleared him of the child pornography charge.

The complainant, who is now 11, claimed that Butler forced her to perform oral sex on him on two occasions. She said that he took a photograph of her in the act with his cell phone.

The alleged assaults occurred at the girl’s home.  Butler knows her family.

She denied suggestions that she was pressured by others to implicate Butler in the crimes.

The girl eventually told relatives about the alleged abuse and a complaint was made to police.

Butler did not reply when police officers put the allegations to him.

Raymond Rolle represented Butler and Darnell Dorsette was the prosecutor.
