Fraud probe at major food wholesaler

Police have launched an investigation into a large amount of food supplies defrauded from a major food distributor in New Providence.

According to reports, five people are currently in custody and assisting police with the investigation.

Police said the food supplies were defrauded during the month of October.

Videos circulating on social media, believed to be connected to the matter, show several men loading food supplies onto Bahamas Food Services (BFS) trucks from a Chinese-owned food store on Wulff Road.

Several men could also be seen taken into custody in an unmarked police vehicle.

The Guardian reached out to both the Chinese-owned food store and BFS but was told that there was no one available to speak on the matter.

Police would not say the total cost of the defrauded items.

Police said their investigation into the matter continues.
