The Mall at Marathon continues its multimillion-dollar renovation

The excitement is building as The Mall at Marathon, home to over one hundred of Nassau’s finest stores, will continue the multimillion-dollar upgrade of its facilities.

Mall officials have announced that phase three of this multi-year initiative will commence this month with the renovation/remodel of the wing that extends from Center Court to AID and Clarks, as well as the area known as the Strip Center – the outdoor wing of The Mall that extends from Dairy Queen to Outdoor Sportsman. Additionally, a major new entrance will be created to replace the existing one facing Marathon Road.

The mall noted the continuation of its capital improvement project is part of its multi-phased renovation and enhancement program that started in the spring of 2015. Last year, the mall remodeled the wing from Center Court to Kelly’s House & Home and the corridors adjacent to QBC Cellular & Electronics and Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC).

Ian Fleming, architect at Bruce LaFleur & Associates, stated “We are very pleased with the general contractors Cavalier Construction Company.” Fleming reported that the retailing enhancements will bring modern updates to the mall. Additional focus will be placed on the retail stores within the construction zone to undertake the installation of new prototype storefronts that will complement the overall ambience of the mall.

Parts of Cavalier Construction Company’s work will be done around the clock in order to keep all mall stores in the construction zone open. Cavalier has pledged that construction will be performed in such a way as to minimize interference during operating hours.

“Although the mall will be undergoing major changes during the renovation, all stores in the construction zone will remain open for business”, said Carla Moss-Fitzgerald, the mall’s marketing coordinator. “The ongoing capital improvements is just another way that we continue to deliver on our commitment to provide a quality shopping experience to our shoppers,” said Fitzgerald.

The Mall at Marathon is situated on 38 acres at the intersection of Marathon Road and Robinson Road, comprising over 300,000 square feet of retail space housing more than 110 businesses. The Bahamas’ largest enclosed, air-conditioned mall opened in 1989 with the Galleria Cinemas opening its doors in 1999. Next, Wendy’s and CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank both opened in 2000. In 2001, the mall undertook a major expansion by adding a new wing, housing 30 shop and kiosk spaces along with a six-unit food court. KFC and Outparcel (now Outback Steakhouse) were added to the mix in 2008.

Once fully developed The Mall at Marathon is expected to be home to over one hundred and fifty businesses and provide over 2,000 parking spaces.
