Fired cop faces rape charge

A former police constable has been accused of raping an American tourist while on duty.

Stephano Curry, 24, of Joe Farrington Road, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt in connection with the incident that allegedly occurred on January 14.

Curry was working at the Tourism Patrol Unit of the Central Division when it is alleged that he sexually assaulted the 25-year-old woman. Curry is accused of molesting the woman after he allegedly found a small amount of cocaine on her during a traffic stop.

Curry was dismissed from the force before his initial court appearance.

Curry was not required to enter a plea to charge.

Ferguson-Pratt remanded Curry to prison, as she is unable to consider bail for the offense.

However, his lawyer Alex Dorsett said that he had already filed a bail application before the Supreme Court.
