The Lord is our shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. — Psalm 23:1
I am like the jockeys on their horses that come out of the gates for the Kentucky Derby. They are not feeling their way, but come out in a speed that may last at the most two nail biting minutes. To begin with, they know their horses and their horses know their riders. They have been grooming them in preparation for this event and although there will only be one winner, they are all participants and cross the finish line.
Then take a look at the Grand Stand — everyone is dressed at their very best — hats, gloves, suits, vests, even top hats. You can see that there is no lack among them. They are rich and they know it. Poverty has no place at the Kentucky Derby as the bets go as “high as the sky”.
The government has announced that Valued Added Tax (VAT) will go from 7.5 percent to 12 percent.
Be this as it may, our text, gives us a spin on the 12 percent VAT. It is time for those of us who truly trust in God, to take this number, 12, and run with it in the name of Jesus. There were 12 disciples, even though one went contrary. It was still 12 because one was added, 12 gates to the celestial city, the 12 tribes of Israel and over a hundred years, the English have been singing of the 12 gifts that are distributed to the day.
The Psalmist David is saying to this nation that in spite of what the government is advancing with VAT, know that those who truly trust in Yahweh God, will be blessed 12 times, and in many cases 12 years will be added to those who are sick and have been told that life is quickly fading from them.
Do you really believe our text that the Lord and not the law is our shepherd? Have you been leaning on the law and not the Lord? Have you been sounding out the “D” that stands for divinity, and not leaning on humanity? Joseph told his brethren that what they did for bad was turned into good.
Do you realize that, as a people of African descent, robbed of our wealth and separated from our birthplace, family, possessions, and became slaves, today God has so blessed us. God has caused us not to be a people in extinction and God knows that it was not for trying even today.
What are you worrying about? Check yourself and know your worth. The Lord is your Shepherd, your leader, your caretaker, your sustenance, your provider, your deliverer, your all in all, and here you are fretting about 12 percent when your Shepherd owns the whole world? Let them take 12 percent. Can’t you count? You still have 88 percent left, and knowing our Shepherd, he will leave the 88 percent and go on a serious hunt for the 12 percent. You have nothing to lose but all to gain.
Seriously, I too was concerned, knowing the plight of 88 percent of the people of this nation, but today, my soul is dancing because I see a new day for our nation. Isaiah 40 verse 1-5 says: “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
“Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.
“The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
“Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”
Believe me, this government is doing this nation a favor — just trust God; and those of you who are living in huts with inhumane conditions, get ready like the Jeffersons to live in the Beverly Hills of this nation, because those who have been storing up wealth and riches, at the unjust treatment of our forbears, did not know that they were doing so for the Sheep. Praise the Lord.
The Lord is our Shepherd and no way in Dodge City are we going to be in want.
