Baha Mar to commemorate Bahamas independence with week-long celebration

In honor of the 45th anniversary of The Bahamas’ independence on Tuesday, July 10, Baha Mar will host a week-long celebration for local and international visitors, taking place throughout the resort destination. The festivities will begin on Thursday, July 5, with an array of memorable events emphasizing the resort’s commitment to the community, dedication to conservation and awareness of Bahamian culture, following a spectacular fireworks show taking place on July 4 at 9 p.m.

Highlights of the independence celebration July 5–10 will include:

  • Sunset Junkanoo parade beginning at 7:30 p.m. on July 7 and 8.
  • Signature Bahamian bites at Baha Mar restaurants.
  • Nightly live music at Blue Note Lounge beginning at 8 p.m.
  • Retail stores, including Striped Cabana and Tropic of Luxury, will feature Independence Day souvenirs.

Additionally, The Current at Baha Mar will host a series of complimentary artistic experiences inviting guests and residents to enjoy the creative energy of Bahamian culture.

On Thursday, July 5, at 6:30 p.m. The Current will host a night of poetry. On Friday, July 6 at 6:30 p.m. it will host a theater night themed “Becoming Bahamian”. On Saturday, July 7, from 7 p.m.–10 p.m., Willis & The Illest will perform.

Across Baha Mar’s restaurants and lounges, signature bites and cocktails will be featured in celebration of Independence Day. Menu additions include the Rising Sun cocktail at 3 Tides Fish House, and Bahamian Pride at Blue Note Lounge. Stix will be serving its version of crab ‘n’ dough, and Shuang Ba will add guava duff bao buns to its menu. Commonwealth will feature Conch Kathi Rolls, while Fi’lia will present steamed hogfish. Katsuya is adding conch tempura and Cleo will be featuring fried lionfish.

Baha Mar Casino will host the Island Luxury Fashion Show on Saturday, July 7 at 9 p.m., highlighting traditional Bahamian prints, hand-crafted accessories and Junkanoo-inspired designs from local Bahamian designers, including David Rolle, Harl Taylor and Bahama Handprints, to name a few.

On Independence Day, Baha Mar will host a memorable independence celebration on the Waterside Place Fountain show area and The Jasmine Lawn, featuring live music and entertainment, as well as culinary offerings, where visitors will be able to taste delicacies including conch salads, daiquiris, seasonal fruit and other Bahamian treats.

The Fairwind Exhibition will showcase Bahamian art spanning over 150 years that highlights the ideologies, beliefs and lifestyles that have shaped the culture of The Bahamas. It will open to the public on Independence Day, Tuesday, July 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the Baha Mar Convention Center.

The schedule for the day will be as follows:

  • 5 p.m. – Independence Celebration on Jasmin Lawn.
  • 5:30 p.m. – Fairwind exhibition opening.
  • 7 p.m. – The Royal Bahamas Police Marching Band.
  • 7:30 p.m. – live music.

Baha Mar’s Independence Day celebration will culminate with a special performance by the Valley Boys at 8:30 p.m. and an unforgettable fountain and fireworks show at 9 p.m.
