Two struck and killed on Carmichael Road in separate incidents

Two men were killed in separate accidents on Carmichael Road shortly before 3 a.m. yesterday, police said.

In the first incident, police said a man was walking near Gladstone Road when he was struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene.

The man was taken to hospital where he died.

Police are appealing to the public for any information that can lead to identifying the vehicle and its driver.

In the second incident, police said a man was leaving a business in the vicinity of Popeye’s restaurant, when he walked into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

The man was also taken to hospital where he died.  The driver remained on the scene, police said.

The latest incidents total five traffic fatalities on New Providence since Friday.

Police reported that shortly after 9 a.m. on Friday, Achintya Garikaparthi, 18, was killed in a three-car collision on Western Road, south of Mount Pleasant Village.

The female drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to hospital and were listed in stable condition.

On Saturday around 10 p.m., police said, a woman who attempted to cross Prince Charles Drive was struck by two cars and later died.

Police also reported that a man died around 9 p.m. on Sunday after the car he was in collided with a poinciana tree on Western Road at the entrance of Mount Pleasant Village.

The victim, who was the passenger, was in a 2007 Honda Fit. The driver was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Police identified the victim as Jeffrey Luna Layosa, 35, of Buen Retiro Road, formerly of the Republic of the Philippines.
