Sex case ends after suspect killed

Court proceedings against a man accused of statutory rape came to an end yesterday when the Crown provided proof of his death.

Stanley Barr, 26, of Andros Avenue, was shot dead at a bar on Market Street on May 23, the day after his release on bail.

Barr, who had been accused of having sex with a minor three years ago, was supposed to appear before Justice Gregory Hilton for his trial. He was represented by Michael Hanna.

Also in the Supreme Court, a jury was seated in the case of murder accused Ashley Hield. Prosecutors allege that Hield murdered John Henry Frazier, 64, between August 24 and 25, 2015.

Hield has pleaded not guilty and his trial is set to begin on Wednesday.According to initial reports, Frazier was changing his car tire on Collins Avenue when he was attacked.
