The Miss Grand Bahama Beauty Pageant Organization yesterday announced that Miss Grand Bahama 2018 has relinquished her title.
This comes after Evana Gibson made a controversial post on social media which garnered a lot of attention over the weekend. Gibson wrote in an Instagram caption, “Haha not a Bahamian sorry…tooo gorgeous to be; big uppp my Zoes.”
After the post went viral, the organization issued a statement saying it was important to “uphold the integrity of the organization,” which was established some 30 years ago.
“But, in order to be a part of the pageant one must be a Bahamian citizen and proud of this country that has become a melting pot of a multitude of cultures,” it said in the statement.
“This has been a very unfortunate situation that we hope will never be repeated.”
In a Facebook post, Gibson apologized for the caption.
She said she meant “to say” what she said, but nevertheless she accepted the blame for her actions.
