Meeting of UNESCO World Heritage Steering Committee
A Meeting of the Steering Committee of UNESCO World Heritage, “Intangible Cultural Heritage and Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions Convention”, was held at the Ministry of Education on September 13.
The steering committee examined the way forward in promoting the ideals of UNESCO, protecting national cultural and intangible cultural heritage, and accessing technical, financial and consultancy assistance in the areas of UNESCO competency, being education, culture, science, and communication.
The Bahamas is replete with cultural heritage sites, dating back to Lucayan times, natural wonders and various cultural assets that are sprinkled throughout the archipelago. These are of interest to UNESCO.
UNESCO’s membership consists of 195 countries.
UNESCO seeks to build peace through cooperation in education, culture and the sciences.
