Small plane feared crashed off Nassau

An Aztec six-seater aircraft traveling from Palm Beach County Park, Florida, to The Bahamas went missing 1.5 miles off Nassau last night and is presumed to have crashed, Minister of Tourism and Aviation Dionisio D’Aguilar said.

“Shortly after 9 p.m., air traffic control reported an Aztec six-seater, which had been behaving quite erratically, seemingly went off the radar,” said D’Aguilar when contacted.

“So, they are assuming that it has crashed. It’s a small aircraft. It was traveling out of Florida.

“It probably went missing 1.5 miles out of Nassau.”

D’Aguilar said the Royal Bahamas Defence Force dispatched a vessel to conduct a search and rescue of the area.

“Right now, we are not aware of how many people are on board, but we think it is two,” he said.
