Trial begins for couple charged in shooting that injured four
The prosecution yesterday opened its case against a couple charged in a shooting that injured four people three years ago.
Michael Newland and Victoria Gibson, who have a child together, are both in custody.
Prosecutors allege Newland attempted to murder Mickia Major, Shavargo Major, Rickell Farrington and Jimmy Lee Augustin during a July 29, 2015 shooting at Key West Street.
Gibson faces four counts of accessory after the fact to attempted murder, as the Crown alleged she tried to help him evade the law.
They have both pleaded not guilty at their trial before Justice Renae McKay.
Anthony Forbes appears for Newland and Sonia Timothy represents Gibson.
Terry Archer and Perry McHardy are prosecuting.
