Give praise when it is due
Now I do believe, that if we’re all being perfectly honest here today we’ll admit to The Fact, that when someone does something wrong or something which we do not like or vehemently disagree with; we’re ready to jump down their throat, as that well known saying puts it, we’re ready to castigate them, tell them off in no uncertain terms…this is a Fact. However, how many are ready to praise people when they do something well or say something which really does make sense? I do believe that the honest answer to that simple question is not too many of us.
Yes indeed, we’re all ready at the drop of a hat, so to speak, to castigate others when they say or do anything wrong; however, we’re not so quick to praise them when they perform with excellence, and that’s a pity. As the title of today’s article simply and succinctly puts it we should all ‘Give Praise When It Is Due’…yes we should! You see, there is nothing better than to praise people for a job well done, and from my personal observations over a prolonged period of time, not enough Business Owners and Managers or Supervisors do this, and mores the pity.
Let’s face it, when we get praised for doing a good job, it makes us feel good, doesn’t it?…you bet it does, it motivates us to know that someone recognized The Fact, that we did our job well. Incidentally, it also gives a boost to the person’s self-esteem, self-image, which is an additional benefit. I guess that in the end, it’s about Business Owners, Managers and Supervisors being positive or negative in nature. The negative person, and let’s face it, there’s an awful lot of these around who seem to be forever in a negative mood who always see everything that is wrong; whereas the positive person will look for what’s right and will be much more inclined to complement people when they perform well, thus motivating them and getting great results from them.
Yes indeed, the command issued in the title of today’s article ‘Give Praise When It Is Due’ is an extremely important one, not only for Business Owners, Managers and Supervisors; but also for Parents, Guardians and Teachers. That’s right, there’s no better way to build self-esteem in young people than by praising them when they do something well; as opposed to being constantly on their back, so to speak, when they do something wrong. Why not try it and see how it works.
