National Chess Championship 2018 underway

On Saturday, November 17, the prestigious National Chess Championship 2018 started at the elegant Atlantis Coral Towers convention center.

Eight of The Bahamas’ strongest and most fervent players are competing to be the next Bahamas National Chess Champion and earn a spot on the 2020 Olympiad National team.

It has been a great tournament so far for the 2017 National Chess Champion, Byron Small, who is currently leading the pack with four wins in four tries. Candidate Master (CM) Small is a chess Olympian just back from the 43rd World Chess Olympiad in October where he earned his CM title.

The tournament is still open for anyone to win; after the first weekend of competition everyone is on the board with points and prepared for this weekend’s competition. These are some of the country’s top chess professional players.

The federation thanked their great sponsors: Atlantis, the Lindroth Development Company, The Mednet Group of companies and the Nassau Development Company, for making this event possible.
