Protester too sick for court arraignment

A nurse arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer, and other charges, during a protest against government policies missed her arraignment yesterday due to an illness.

Jenny Gilbert, 56, of Sea Fan Drive, Sea Breeze Estates, was supposed to be arraigned on allegations that she assaulted Corporal 2989 Barr on November 21; obstructed him in the execution of his duties; and resisted arrest.

However, the arraignment did not occur as Gilbert submitted a sick slip to Magistrate Samuel McKinney. The arraignment is now scheduled for December 4.

Gilbert has claimed in a new interview that the officer manhandled her during the arrest near The Sidney Poitier Bridge.
