God truly wants to bless us
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Growing up as children we often heard from our father, more so than our mother, telling us, in no uncertain terms to sit down and be still, because our frisky behavior was not in keeping with good manners and could lead to something that needed no fixing becoming broken. We heeded because we knew that command came with an unspoken punishment.
Be still; we have become too busy body as a people and nation. Be still; and cease from rushing into matters both nationally, morally and spiritually, and wait for the wisdom that comes from above. Be still; for there is too much noise from many who speak before thinking. Be still; and consider how we as a people have toppled from being dignified, decent and well behaved. Be still; and view the moral decline of pride in the inner city. Be still; and count the daily openings of liquor stores in the inner city. Be still; and observe the flagrant disregard for the law of the land, the erosion of regard for the brotherhood and honor to the God of all creation.
This beloved 46th Psalm opens with the assurance that God is our refuge and strength and a very present help in the time of trouble. The year 2019 will not be smooth sailing, and our safe passage will depend on our giving to Caesar that is due to him and to God what is due to him.
Be still; for our moral, financial and spiritual help will not come from the law but from the Lord.
Yes, it is time for us to be still and heed the command of our God. God really and truly wants to bless our land and us as a people, but we must become disciplined nationally. We must acknowledge him not because of tradition, but salvation. Not because of church attendance and participation, but by being true worshippers in spirit and truth. Not because of who are members, the influence of the leader, and the beauty and size of the edifice, but because the Lord is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him.
An unknown author must have been thinking about our text today when penning what life is about: Life is a challenge – meet it. Life is a gift – accept it. Life is an adventure – dare it. Life is sorrow – overcome it. Life is a tragedy – face it. Life is a duty – perform it. Life is a game – play it. Life is a mystery – unfold it. Life is a song – sing it. Life is an opportunity – take it. Life is a journey – complete it. Life is a promise – fulfill it. Life is love – enjoy it. Life is beauty – praise it. Life is spirit – realize it. Life is a struggle – fight it. Life is a puzzle – solve it. Life is a goal – achieve it.
My prayer for the country in 2019 is for all that have breath begin as of today to praise the Lord. Trust me, the blessings will flow like a mighty stream. Old things will be passed away and all things will become new. Praise the Lord.
