Let your voices be heard this Junior Junkanoo 2019: introducing Junior Junkanoo fan voting
The time for your input in Junkanoo is now. The Junkanoo process has solely been left in the hands of judges since inception, but as of 2018, the National Junkanoo Committee (NJC) has introduced the annual NJC-MobileAssist Viewers Choice Award, an award that is determined by allowing fans to vote for their favorite Junkanoo group in the MobileAssist app. Kishlane O’Brien and Dr. Dwight Marshall (co-chairpersons of the National Junkanoo Committee) wanted to find a way to give Junkanoo fans a voice and a chance to participate in their very own voting process, and have achieved this goal through the MobileAssist App.
This upcoming Junior Junkanoo will be no different. Schools from island to island will take their crafts and creative excellence to the road, starting January 26, 2019, when fans can cast their votes for their favorite Junior Junkanoo groups based on four categories: best music, best bellers, best performance and best costume.
The NJC and MobileAssist plan to make the Viewer’s Choice Award a standard for all Junkanoo parades on New Providence, Grand Bahama and the other Family Islands, because it gives fans the opportunity to interact and participate with a beloved tradition. Give your input this Junior Junkanoo by downloading the free MobileAssist App and voting for the fast-approaching Junior Junkanoo Parade for your chance to let your voice be heard.
