Police: Woman raped in New Providence
A woman was sexually assaulted at her home in the East Street area on Thursday, police reported.
According to police, a man entered the woman’s home and assaulted her.
Police said a man is being questioned in connection to the incident.
There were 55 reported incidents of rape in 2018, a six percent increase compared to 2017, according to police statistics.
There were 113 incidents of unlawful sexual intercourse in 2018, which includes instances where minors are sexually assaulted.
Two men were injured in separate shootings on Thursday, according to police.
Police said the first incident happened just before 8 p.m. outside a residence in the Dunmore Street area.
A man was standing outside his home when an unknown man approached and shot him.
The victim was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital where he is listed in critical condition, police reported.
According to police, the second incident took place just before 10 p.m. in the Nassau Village area.
A man was standing outside his home when he was approached by a man who demanded cash and shot him in the foot.
The victim was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
