Police reported the discovery of eight marijuana fields in North Andros following a joint operation involving Bahamian and U.S. law enforcement authorities.
Shortly before 7 a.m. on Thursday, OPBAT officers, while on air patrols over San Andros, found four marijuana fields, police said.
With the assistance of law enforcement officers on Andros, they uprooted 9,700 marijuana plants ranging from six inches to three feet in height before destroying the fields with fire.
Police said that shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday, authorities went to a bushy area in San Andros where they uncovered the additional four fields and uprooted 84,810 marijuana plants. The fields were also destroyed by fire.
Police also reported that shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday, officers, acting on information, went to a vessel at Potter’s Cay Dock in New Providence.
The vessel had just arrived from Exuma. Police said they seized two boxes, which contained 17 packages of suspected marijuana.
No arrests were made in these incidents, police said.
