The three-time defending champions National Fence Intruders and the pennant-winning Lady Defenders face elimination in the men and women’s divisions respectively as the New Providence Volleyball Association (NPVA) Championships continue this week at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium.
The Defenders hold a two games to one lead over the Intruders in the men’s series, and the 14-time defending champions Scottsdale Vixens hold a two games to one lead over the Lady Defenders in the women’s series. The fourth games of the two best-of-five series are set for Wednesday. On Sunday, the Intruders stayed alive in their series with the Defenders, winning game three and avoiding a sweep. They prevailed in five sets, 25-9, 25-16, 19-25, 22-25 and 15-8, and now trail in the series two games to one.
In the women’s division, after dropping the second match on Friday, the Vixens won in four sets on Sunday, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15 and 26-24, and now lead their series two games to one. Shown are some of the scenes from the third game of the women’s series.
