The University of The Bahamas (UB) Mingoes men’s basketball team will hold open tryouts starting at 8 a.m. this Saturday at the Kendal G.L. Issacs National Gymnasium.
Coaches and administrators will be evaluating players as the team loses two starters to graduation at the end of this season.
Head Coach Bacchus Rolle said the two graduating seniors have played big roles on the team and he’s looking to replace them in the system.
“We lose Ramon Dames and Justin Smith who have both been a strong presence on the court at the guard position,” he said. “We are looking at big men as well to help our presence in the paint.”
Rolle added that he’s looking for talented players who are able to adapt to playing in an organized program.
“We have a great program here at UB with basketball and we want quality players who can come in and be a part of the team chemistry that we are trying to build here,” he said. “We want players who can be role players when they need to be role players and leaders when they need to be leaders. In short, we look for players who are willing to be a part of a team.”
The tryouts are for high school seniors in grades 10-12, and for recent high school graduates. Players interested in continuing their careers at the next level are asked to come out.
