Man convicted of indecent assault during burglary

A jury convicted a man of indecently assaulting a 46-year-old woman after he broke into her home.

Gary Sears returns to court on May 3 for sentencing by Justice Deborah Frazier.

Prosecutors alleged that Sears broke into the woman’s home in the western district of New Providence on December 26, 2017.

The victim said that Sears was not a stranger to her, as he frequented her neighborhood.

The woman said she was in bed during the home invasion and Sears jumped on top of her and fondled her breasts.

Sears also threatened to kill the woman and her dog if she reported the matter to police.

For his part, Sears claimed he was not there.

However, prosecutors T’shura Ambrose and Cassie Bethel called witnesses to rebut his alibi.

Sears claimed that on the night in question he attended a party hosted by Paradise Games with his friend Reginald Petithomme.

However, Akeira Nancoo testified that the web shop did not host a party on that date.
